The term “blue chip” comes from the game of poker, where blue chips are the highest-value pieces. To be a blue chip, a company must be well-known, well-established, and well-capitalized. Membership in certain stock indexes is important for determining blue chip status.
What is Blue Chip Stock?
Blue chip stock is issued by a large, well-established, financially strong company with an excellent reputation. Typically, these companies have been in operation for many years, have steady earnings, and generally provide returns to investors.
Market Capitalization of Blue Chip Firms
The market capitalization of a blue chip firm usually runs into billions. It’s often a household name that dominates its industry or ranks among the top three.
For all these reasons, blue chip stocks are among the most popular choices for investors: they can be profitable investments. Examples of blue chip stocks include IBM Corp, Coca-Cola Company, Microsoft, American Express, McDonald’s, and Boeing Company.

If your Thrifty Blue Chip membership is terminated, all earned points will revert to Thrifty and cannot be transferred or redeemed by any other Thrifty Blue Chip member.
